Description

Provides both the theory and hands-on application of principles including the installation of receptacles, the installation of solid-state timers, photo-electric and proximity sensors, switching and lighting circuits per the National Electrical Code (NEC). Begins with safety, basic electrical concepts and Ohm???s law. Progresses through alternating current, lighting, motors, relays, starters, overload devices, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), ladder logic, occupational lighting sensors, basic programmable logic controller (PLC) knowledge and three-phase electrical systems and services. Introduces three-phase motors and control circuits. Students will also wire step-up/step-down transformers and construct both basic and PLC driven motor control circuits. 12 credit hours

A. Calculate and design working electrical circuit to either NEC or given specifications
B. Measure voltage, current, and resistance in an AC or DC circuit using test equipment
